It's ugly, but it was ours
According to a Russian document that our paper has acquired, the damage caused to the Hungarian state with the selling of the commercial representation in Moscow is at least five billion Forints. We have already sent this evidence by mail to the authorities examining the conditions of the sale. It was János Veres, minister of finance at the time, who supervised the Hungarian National Asset Management Company, responsible for the transaction.

A certain commissioner
Although János Veres is lobbying hard to become European commissioner, the best chances are with László Andor, the economist who wrote about the allegedly anti-Semitic statements of former ministerial advisors to Viktor Orbán. Andor would give up his banking position in London, which Veres could then apply for as a consolation prize.

Hauling down the flag
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs justified the closing down of a number of foreign representations with economization, while the government is throwing money out of the window in real estate deals in New York and in Moscow. A new rightist government would re-open not only those consulates that are important from a national political point of view, but would put a greater emphasis on the Balkans as well.

A union within the Union
Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland would like to have joint diplomatic missions in certain places as of next year. Moreover, the V4 (the Visegrád Group) will probably establish a Visegrád Region within the European Union. By doing so, they wish to represent their own interests more effectively, as well as create energy security.

Casus belli
There are internal political reasons behind László Sólyom having been denied entry into Slovakia last week. Prime Minister Robert Fico no longer needs his coalition partners. However, he has a great need for anti-Hungarian voters.

Pogrom atmosphere
The Slovak government are using murders committed to the injury of Hungary’s Gypsies as a political attack against our country. Meanwhile, our neighbours to the north have run into the sort of trouble with their extremists that may even lead to a political restructuring there.

Marathon of the stateless
Alojz Hlina, an entrepreneur from Bratislava, continues his campaign against Ján Slota, even though the party leader accused Hungary of having obliterated its minorities. According to the businessman who two weeks ago publicly apologised to the Hungarians, the Slovakians still haven’t got over the period of Greater Hungary, and many people still fear the alleged intention of historical irredentism.

Language attack
It caused quite a storm on both sides of the Danube when - during its last session before the summer holiday - the Slovakian parliament changed the Slovakian language law, in force since 1995, making it a lot stricter. Interestingly enough, the governing power at the time, just like now, was the Slovakian National Party (SNS), led by Ján Slota.

Free fall
Hungary's political landscape has undergone major changes as a result of elections to the European Parliament. MSZP (Hungarian Socialist Party) has shrunk to being a medium-sized political force and now has to compete for voters with Jobbik (Movement for a Better Hungary). Some counties that used to be carnation strongholds have hardly produced any votes for the left and SZDSZ (Alliance of Free Democrats) is in search of a liquidator.

Will we catch up with Romania?
“Last week, you mentioned that anti-Hungarian feelings were spreading like the new influenza, because 120 Hungarian civil servants had been made redundant in Transylvania. The EP elections campaign is underway, and you're playing the Romanian card?”
